anyone heard who gets the rights to this yet???
Hope we don't have to wait if so til the DD run is over in June.
I still hope IDW doesn't get it though unless they hire brandon Jerwa and get a good artist,
Tim

....yeah, because who WOULDN'T want the genius behind "Rise of the Red Shadows," General Rey, Cobra Commander Zartan and Lady Jaye's death back at the helm? While they're at it, they could hire Joe Casey, too, and he and Jerwa could play a game of "Who can disrespect the property MORE?"

They would both win.

I don't think Brandon's completely to blame for that. From what I understand a LOT was editorially driven (much like Marvel's recent treatment of Spider-man). But we'll never know the full story cuz we weren't in the room when things were going down.

As for the question about who has the rights, the rumor is IDW got it but I wouldn't look for an official announcement until DDP's final issue is on sale. To pull the rug out from under them publically while they're still dancing would be a really crappy thing to do. And no matter how stupid Hasbro can get I would hope they have more class than that. I'd look for the official announcement at either Joecon or SDCC or right around that time.

I take it you haven't been keeping up with the Highlander series or the lovely AOD/Xena Crossover.

there was nothing wrong with the red shadows in the DD run or general rey. Sure zartan Cc was dumb and the death of Lady j was the worst thing they did but Jerwa was probobly forced to kill her off. Gi Joe was a big seller when Jerwa was writing it anyways.
Joe Casey was pretty lame he only had a few good issues but those were torwards the end of his run.
Haven't read none of the highlander cuz I don't care for it or wanted to start a new comic since they mostly ain't worth what they cost really.
The Ash?xena thing is a dumb idea but fans would be into something like that.
Off topic anyone check out freddy/jason/ash... that's crap for sure,
but if IDW gets it hopefully they can make a good comic worth the $$ cuz most of there stuff isn't worth the $$$.

A few writers I would love for them to consider are:
1) Larry Hama (of course)
2) Mark Waid (His work on Captain American is still some of the best that book has ever had in my opinion and his ability to make B-list characters interesting is great)
3) Geoff Johns (has done several books and crossovers at DC and also can make b-list characters interesting...which is important for G.I.Joe since there are a good deal of B-listers)
4) Mark Miller (His writing on Wanted, The Ultimates and The Authority speaks for itself)

I'm wondering if they'll hold off on another comic until the movie so they can tie it into that.

On the other hand, if IDW gets it, they have proven with both Transformers and Star Trek that they can take a concept and effectively juggle several different continuities within it. In fact, since IDW handled the Transformers movie comic, it wouldn't surprise me if they got G.I.Joe in part for that reason.

I would just hope that if there's a non-movie-related comic, that it maintains the Marvel and DDP continuity within reason, and doesn't throw everything out for a while concept reboot. That simply isn't necessary.

Well Hasbro has been telling us they are going to tell us soon for a very long time now, so if I had money riding on it then I'd also guess they are going to wait until the end of the Devils Due and one of the cons to say which company has the title and when we should expect new issues on the shelves.

I think Devils Due had enough of watch sales fall out the bottom when you let everyone know a title is canned, I mean just look at poor Reloaded when people found out the end was near so why bother finding out how the story ends.

New era just can't get here quickly enough since I'm good a ready to forget all the bad things Devils Due with back firing gimicks that only made people want to stop reading rather than being able to draw more readers in.
