Here's one of my new GI Joe 25th Anniversary custom figures, C.O.M.B.A.T. upgraded from his original Sigma 6 custom fig in my archives. Combat was made from a Cobra soldier lower half, Star Wars Assassin droid upper half, MARS robot head, and various random parts. He can look around in all directions and had the shoulder laser replaced with a machinegun. The American Flag was hand painted on his shoulder. Someone told me he looks really close to the BV-01 character in this short film here http://www.veoh.com/videos/v1602778Qbhg ... 908&rank=1 I'll probably tinker around with the head and armor design for future Combat units.

Thanks for all your help with Red Laser's eyes btw! I decided on straight silver as it gave him a creepy, empty look. If I make another he'll get the red tears tho. Red Laser is actually a GI Joe character from way, way back. When GI Joe first toys hit Europe they needed a less Amaerican name so they changed it to 'Action Force'. Cobra became the 'Red Shadows' and the line continued under those names. Red Laser here was Baron Ironblood's lackey who saved him in a key issue using 'primative laser technology'. Well I upgraded that laser tech and here he is!

Red Laser was made from a Cobra Commander head/lower arms/upper legs, Cobra trooper helmet (cause it has the cool little 'v' shape in the middle), Crimson Guard body/lower legs, and various random parts to form his laser gauntlet and backpack. The original figure was just a straight repaint of Cobra Commander and while I like the colors and design, I needed to give him my own special touches to bring him into the 21st Century!

Enjoy!

Red Laser is still awesome but C.O.M.B.A.T. literally kicked my face off. It's like Johnny 5 put on pants and decided to whoop ass.

Both of these are KICK A$$!!! These are some of the most original and hottest customs I've seen. The painting is FLAWLESS.

Consider both these ideas borrowed.

Alright, stop showing off guys! Really, that is a very cool Red Laser and COMBAT is a cool surprise. I was expecting some kind of a Robo-Joe variant but he's more of an Appleseed kinda machine. The BV-01 link was also neat, is there a more complete mini-movie or is it just that so far?

The Red Laser looked good in the WIP thread. It still looks great here.

COMBAT is really well done. Kooky but it fits in the realm of GI Joe. I like the parts use here. I've seen those MARS robots and passed on them but the use here really works. The only thing I would have done a little differently is maybe to shorten the neck. If it wasn't a robot I would say it is a little long. Then if you take into account that it is a robot I have to wonder why he even has a neck. Fantastic looking custom regardless.

You wonder about the neck but don't question the pants? ;-)

BTW, Jin, you make me cry. Each and every custom you post is like the world being unveiled yet another undiscovered work by Michelangelo.

I must confess that these are production quality. They look like you just bought them. Absolutely beautiful!

The c.o.m.b.a.t version looks really interesting, I think the pants give him, a "i want to be human" sort of personality...

At first i thought that red laser on his arm of Red Laser was going to be an LED, although still a very cool figure also.

Your work inspires me to keep working on my own. Well done.

I think I will be bidding on the COMBAT figure :p

Just don't file assault charges! I'll get you some glue for that face. And thanks!

Borrow away, that's why I make em, to inspire people. THanks for the paint work compliment!

Robo-Joe comes later, even in the black/orange/gold speckled look. Still working on how I want the design to look, as in, should be be that bulky or not? He was part of the space series, which was why the huge body type. But does he always look like that, or has a different body underneath?

Hmmm, I could shorten it. The neck only looks long because he has no chin, the head is so compact. If I stick a Scarred Officer head on there it looks normal. Hmmm, I may have to make Overkill that way!

Thanks Chaosx, that's always my goal, to make them look like they should be on a showroom floor or packaged up.

Yep, that was my goal. I figured in battle an all-silver armored robot would scare the locals it was defending. But one that looked more humanoid, pants, a USA flag, would be more acceptable. Tho I do have plans to make a really 'dangerous' Joe bot, hehe. If I make another Red Laser I'll do a light-up feature. Hindsight is always 20/20, argh.

Man, both of these are made up of several tons of an equal measure of WIN and KICK ASS. What silver did you use for Combat? Blackwash on top of it?

/KICK WIN?
//WIN ASS?

Well if I ever get around to doing my own robo jo version, i would go for a more human look than the bulky look he was made in, as the space series figures had other figures inside thoose bulky suits, so one could assume that he has a more human body undernieth.

Probably will alow you to do a robo cop / terminator / gi joe like figure.

i need to get my self some 25th fodder to work up some customs, now i have sculpting, more or less worked out.

Awesome work as usual...
COMBAT looks really cool...I love the head choice...like sombody said...very Johny 5 Very cool

However I'm not totaly sold on the pants...I think if he had robotic feet in place of the boots it'd look better...or at least likes ombody just put some pants on him to make him "decent". I could totaly see that happening, here at work we've got one of those life size skeletons...and he gets different out fits depending on the time of year/holiday.

I love the look of Red Laser...you've really captured the feel of the vintage figure and brought it up to date...excellent job.

I didn't catch your thread on the eyes till it hit well into the 2nd page so I didn't add much..but I'm not really a fan of the eyes...the fang tears even less....of the choices I think all silver was the right choice..I think that almond shaped eye is just a bit too "surprised anime" and not enough "sinister"...basicly give him angrier eyes and you've got a perfect figure.

It's always refreshing to see a "big name customizer" taking critiques from the board and actualy using them to improve their craft

C.O.M.B.A.T. reminds me of an updated, cooler, more lethal version of the robot from Saturn 3.

Very, very cool, very well done.
