Wild Bill kinda sucks in his factory form. I took some length out of his torso, dremeled his holsters to a more reasonable size (and reversed them, since the v1 WB has his guns worn for cross-draw) and cut the glasses and mustache off of the factory head and glued them onto a 25th Ace head I had. Have a bit of paint touch up to do still, but he's more or less final.

Image

Shortened his torso, gave him the GI Joe vs. Cobra Gung-Ho head (hat is still 25th though) to fix his cartoony pea-head, and modded his hand so he can hold his M-79 better. Have an extra GH laying around so I can make a swappable right hand capable of holding a pistol or knife normally, but I haven't done the work yet.

Let me know what you think.

Wild Bill fix? Brilliant! I can see Ace in that head but its not so obvious it sticks out. And I'm definitely stealing the cross-draw holster idea. Very cool.

How did you match the jaundiced skin tone of Gung-ho? I've got the VvV head I want to put on him when I fix his arms but can't figure out what to do about the skin tone. I'd rather not repaint the whole thing if I don't have to.

Very cool fixes. Nicely done.

Awesome tweak, just one suggestion: lengthen the neck a bit on Wild Bill.

Great fixes on both!

I'm with IW - the WB neck needs looks too short. I think the problem is the collar on the vest (since the Ace head should fit fine.) Maybe trimming off the collar would be an easier fix?

It's flesh tone mixed with some OD green and tan of all things. It took me some time to get it just right, but it is do-able. Start with flesh and mix in a bit of olive drab, work from there. Friggin' weird skintone.

And now that you guys mention it, Bill's head is sitting a bit low. Hadn't noticed before. ::goes to mix some Milliput::

Looks good, how did you shorten the torso, I'd like to take a crack at fixing Ace.

Used a saw to cut the torso just above the belt. I dremeled the leftover stuff off down to the beltline and then used the dremel to round the outer edges of the torso and the interior of the waist (so it looked like a bowl) and then glued the two halves back together.

I have a custom in the works using Ace, I'll try and remember to take some pics when I shorten his torso.

Nice mods on both. Huge improvement with that GH head! And I love the holster idea!

On lengthening the neck - I'm sure there are many ways to do that, and if this is just an obviously known one, I apologize. But, instead of doing anything to the neck itself, I use the hot glue trick on the head, to make it so that it sits at the desired height on the neck. There couldn't be a simpler option (at least that I know of for a perfect fit), with no sculpting required, and the only cutting required would be if you needed to drill the hole in the head larger to give the got glue a chance to really hold well.

Just my 2 cents, but I doubt I'm describing anything you haven't already considered.

OH - and by the way, BOTH look AWESOME. I wish I had that GH head, but I am late to this scale of customizing, and I really don't have anything other than figs presently on the shelves to work with. Bravo.
