So I was looking at figures online and ordered me 2 Maris Brood figures. When I got them I noticed something I was not pleased with at all. Her knees don't bend. When is Hasbro going to understand that little bits of articulation is the key. I want my Star Wars figures to pose like Joes. I mean, my Sith can't kick or anything. "Action" figure my rear. If I were to scrap one for parts..I could get the arms anf head for use. The rest is stiff. The body, if done right and not have that half bent side pose, would have been a great female body for a customs.

Just a thought

just depends on which ones you get. I got a new Stormtrooper the other day and it has the same articulation as a 25th sculpt.

This is what drove me to Joes way back in 82. SW figs have crappy articulation. Hasbro has teased us in recent years with awesome sculpts. So much that I actually picked up a few Star Wars figs but have generally been dissappointed. And I want to collect them, I'm a huge SW fan, but they're just inferior to joes. I won't even mention Microman...oh wait.
But I view them more as custom fodder for Joes than anything else. Maybe when I get some time and extra money I shell out for some balljoints from HLJ and customize a few Clone Commandos.

What are these ball joints you speak of? My Commandos need real articulation.

Obviously it depends on the figure, but I have to say that the -- shall we say INCONSISTENT articulation of Star Wars figures is a source of frustration. It's one of the reasons I tend to stick to Clone Troopers and Stormtroopers these days. Found the Jumptrooper the other day. No problems there.

But yeah, as far as I'm concerned, there's no real reason why a newly-sculpted Star Wars figure shouldn't have a decently full range of articulation, and in a humanoid figure, that includes elbows and knees, and ideally wrists, ankles, and the waist.

Check out the Yellow Sub stuffHLJ offers. I believe these are the same bits ogre's talking about. I've got many of these over the past year and they're pretty much exactly the same things as RevolTech joints, and work great.

Yep those are the joints. I haven't gotten them yet, because I'm really nervous about the "surgery". More specifically my ability to perform said "surgery".

Surgery ? Surely you jest, these are so easy to use, just drill two small holes and put the joints together and there you go, you're done, unless you want to paint them.

I highly suggest that you get these, becouse they sell out fairly fast.

Yeah, if you've got a RevolTech fig of some sort (and if you don't, what's your defect here?), they're basically just universal joints that need a socket to plug into in each part of the fig you're connecting. Just make sure it's snug to keep from falling out, and you're good.

I've been using a lot of Star Wars figures for my own customizing these days, and gotten to the point where I just think of my customs as statues due to the lack of articulation. Unfortunately Joe parts don't translate well into fantasy/adventure, so it's a trade-off I have to live with.

What I really hate though, is when the figures are posed in such a way that standing on their own is next to impossible; such as Arena Escape Padme (there's like one position, that if the leg is *slightly* out of alignment she'll topple right over) or Bultar Swan (stuck in a permanent squat). Not to mention the "twisted torso" style (typical of one verison of Padme) that means the figure only looks right if the torso is turned and posed from an angle...

But enough P&M from me, compared to 25A Joes these things are a godsend. :-)

Crap - I just picked up a bunch of Force Unleashed figs today -- had I known that Maris was knee-less I would have passed. I guess I can use a Pilot Padme's legs on her or something -- maybe even a 25A Scarlett - Maris needs to be taller anyway. Still, it sucks balls that they would take such a step backward. And then putting ball-joint ankles on straight legs is just idiotic. When you look at how FOW the Secret Apprentice and Rahm Kota figs are, you kinda expect at least half that level of goodness in the rest of the wave :-/ . Oh, well - some Scarlett legs will fix her right up.

What also pisses me off is the drastic differences in scaling on these figs. I finally snagged a Kashyyyk trooper and was all excited until I stood him up next to some other troops -- it's like it was "bring your kid to the Empire day" or something - he's a full head shorter than the last Kashyyyk troop (the VOTC Biker Scout repaint) and his head is less than pea-sized. I'm glad I only got one of these - I stocked up on the repaint version and I'm glad I did - because this one sucks. I don't mind different-sized characters - variety is great. But clones are supposed to be, well, clones -- they should be at least comparable in height. I was super-pissed that Cmdr Cody was so short & pea-headed, but then we got a bunch of great Jango figs and other Clones that were great, now this "LASER BLAST" rears it's pea-head again :verymad:

I was afraid of that. Glad I passed on the figure. I've been tempted to get the new Gree. A visual in-package side-by-side comparison with a previous Clone Trooper doesn't look TOO bad (what I should really do is take a loose Clone Trooper into the store with me at some point and make an even closer inspection), and I snagged the Imperial Jumptrooper the other day, and HE'S okay heightwise, but yeah, Star Wars does seem to be plagued with a bad case of "the incredible shrinking humans". To date, it's avoided the Clones since they were previous molds, but the new Kashyyyk trooper is just that -- all new. So I had a bad hunch. Makes me wonder how long I'll collect ANY Star Wars figures if they keep this up.

You do that and you win at SW Collektoring :D

Those are the best Evo sets ever along with the Secret Apprentice set. I'm going to get some more for customs (haven't done any real SW customs in years, but now I want to.)
