I'm currently working on a Cobra Transport Chopper, which only appeared in the old Marvel GIJoe comics and never in the cartoons or toys. It's based on the CH-54 Tarhe of the US Military (Civilian version is the Sky Crane).

I'm using a Chap Mei Soldier Force Sky Lifter Helicopter as base:

and I plan to turn it into this:

Looks like the Cobra Troopers couldn't wait for me to paint the helo so they did it themselves. Imagine my surprise when I awoke to find this on my floor this morning!

Gah! Where are you guys finding these things!? I seriously need to get like 3 of the Soldier Force versions. Chopper looks good so far; that's one of the ones I'm planning if I can find them.

You lucky man, living in the Philippines where you actually get the entire Chap Mei line. ;) I am so jealous!

And you're brave too! I spray paint outside, and even with more newspaper than that set down, I find a ring (rectangle) of color on the grass when I'm all done.

Just realized your DTC Cobra troops are customs. They look much nicer in that paint scheme & jive alot better with the originals.

Man, I hate it when my figures get all uppity and start painting stuff. That's why every now and then, I'll kill one and toss him in a tub with the others. They see their dead buddy, they start towing that line.

Er, um, I mean I never do that. I'm not crazy. I'M NOT I TELL YOU!!!!!!!!!!!

Nice chopper.

hmmm I wonder how much it'd cost to send a case of those overseas. :shifty:

Great looking chopper by the way. I'd like to see pics of it after the armaments have been added. ;)

Heheh... I actually painted that outside. I just thought I'd make a funny "dio" about it. I did leave a rectangle of Cobra blue in our driveway...

That's G Blue 3 (semi gloss) from the Gundam Color Spray line of Gunze Sangyo. Along with Tamiya, they're about the only hobby paints which are readily available here (Citadel and Vallejo are exclusively distributed and are expensive).

The 100ml can you see in the photos only covered about 90% of the chopper. I had to mix some paint and apply the rest by hand so it isn't as smooth on the underside.

Heheh... Thanks. They actually make good Trooper versions. Not as good as the 25A, but somewhat more poseable. I was really looking forward to that DTC4 Officer too.

It would cost ALOT. The chopper is really big and heavy.

I'm stumped with the Gundam gattling cannons. I don't know how to attach them to the underside of the chopper :-/

I am so gonna have to get at least one of these when I go to London in October. Badass start to the custom man.

as for attaching the guns . . . maybe find a junk arm (newsculpt I'm thinking, easier to take apart) boil and pop it apart at the arm swivel, drill a hole for the swivel in the bottom of the cockpit and attach the forearm to the gun.

Image

Like so, except, y'know, good looking. Should give you full side to side and up and down motion. The peg on top goes into the bottom of the cockpit.
