I was thinking the same about Outback this morning while perusing Mike's Forgotten Figures.

If anyone has painted these up in better colors I'd love to see them. The sculpting on some of the later figures was great, but they didn't paint the details which really hurts the look of the figures.

I love that Outback and used him for our "Create a Con Set" Group Project. I used the body for a new Recondo

Based his colors off a 12" Adventure Team uniform.

Also used that Leatherneck for an updated Claymore

He is also painted in AT commo pattern

Some of those head sculpts are fantastic (Muskrat) and some are just bland and terrible (Outback and Eels).

I was gonna say Red Ninja v1, but the topic is "GREAT SCULPTING" and that figure is far from great sculpting, the colours are beyond hidious

I agree with Sputnik about eel v2. Just don't like the sculpt. The figure has the proportions of a Corps figure

I did not like that eel v2 until I saw mathews...

Now I know what to do with the handful of funskool ones I have. I would love to see the night creeper leader painted to match the night creepers.

The real problem with the Eel2 is that it should have been named HydroViper 2.

I gotta go with the Mega Marines. Cover the neon and they work great. The camo undertones are hidden by the glaring neon.

The club Salvaged two figures (well 1-1/2) with Gung Ho and Dragonsky. I swapped out a repainted Blastoff torso on Dragonsky and use the clear Mirage with them. Just wish I had a Clutch to match :-/

The Club also used all of Clutch but the head and arms for the Renegades. Their reused Mega Marines are my favourite figures they released.

I second Skymate. If you take away the goofy color scheme (or just repainted the hat and the webgear, really), he's one of the most intricately-sculpted figures in the line.

I'd also give Gristle a nod. It's not that his color scheme is unbearable, but it kind of masks how well-detailed the figure is. Something more muted, but with more painted details, would have helped to show off the job they did of sculpting him (for example, this beauty courtesy of chad_ghost).

Pink. On a GI Joe fig.

Terrible. Yes. I'll take any Create-A-Cobra figures you have lying around off your hands, heck, I'd even pay shipping. ;-)

Call me crazy, but I actually like the club repaints of those Mega Marines less than the originals. I think that camo works in 12", but is too much in 3 3/4". And I also like Eel v2.

I think Firefly could have used a darker shade of green, but I don't consider him one of the worst offenders.

I think some of these are made worse by sitting next to figures like Barricade v2, Flak Viper v2, Mutt v4, etc. Any figure of that time that was a repaint really highlighted the fact that the line was going neon. Many have pointed out that bright colors did exist early on, but imo the repaints added unnecessarily to the fact that we were being flooded with them.

Here are some figures I made less-neon. It isn't that I dislike the originals. But I was putting together some ninja customs:

(and I hate when I take pics and can see sloppy paint I previously missed with my eyes. I may need glasses.)
