I know it took a little while, but here is the coverage for Toy Fair 2008 from GeneralsJoes/JoeSightings/JoeBattlelines:
http://www.generalsjoes.com/images/ToyFair_08/index.htmPoints of Interest:
Single Packs:- Only Wave 2, Wave 3, and Wave 4 '08 was shown, but there was also a B.A.T. from an undisclosed single pack wave shown as well.
- The B.A.T. features two swappable hand attachments, his backpack w/ 3 weapon attachments, an opening "spores" cannister from Issue #44, spores, AND a Battle Damaged head sculpt/chest panel. Quite simply one of the most amazing 3 3/4" figures I have ever seen, without hesitation.
- Major Bludd's armored arm is not poseable at the elbow.
- The reason for the delay on Bludd was that his head sculpt was off. The version shown here at Toy Fair is the actual version we will see released.
Vehicles:- Some of the vehicles are vintage tooling with newly tooled parts. The VAMP is largely vintage tooling (as is the Armadillo) but with certain additions, retooled components and somewhat new styling.
- The Trubble Bubble and Air Chariot are totally new tools.
- Clutch comes with the VAMP, Breaker comes with the RAM, I'm not sure who the driver of the Armadillo is.
- The Serpentor that comes with the Chariot is the Devils' Due inspired Serpentor, but chances are good we'll see a more classic version down the line.
- Tele-Viper appears to come with a lot of the standard Viper's tooling, with a new head and some new secondary parts.
- The HISS is the DTC HISS recolored and re-released in a new package. It will come with a driver.
- Every vehicle should come with at least one driver.
- This is merely the first wave of vehicle releases...more to come.
Battle Packs:- The packs will come with 3-4 figures and other cartoon-centric dio and support pieces.
- Yes, the Lady Jaye in the Weather Dominator pack WILL be a brunette. The colors are not accurate in the mock up box.
- Each Battle Pack will come with a segment of the MASS Device (5 in total) and you can buy them all, then build the MASS Device, and yes it is in scale with the figures.
- Certain single packs will also come with additional components for the MASS Device (COBRA Commander with the crystals, etc...).
- There will be five total Battle PAcks w/ DVD's, MSRP is around $19.99.
12 Inch:- The Hasbro produced 12" figures will be largely play-feature based, very similar to the last round of 12" Joes that we got in Valor Vs. Venom. Sideshow will be producing more high-end, RAH accurate 12" renditions of our favorite characters.
The Movie:Yes, Hasbro showed a 10 minute "behind the scenes" look at the movie production, including some animatics (non final computer generated animation) some concept art, and interviews with the people involved in the movie's production. The piece involved lots of fast-moving pictures, it was tough to make out lots of the details.
One sequence involved a pair of operatives in "Nano-tech suits" that enable them to move very fast. The animatic shows them zipping through the streets while being chased by rocket-firing vehicles. There is lots of impressive acrobatics (flipping through moving vehicles, dodging rocket fire, etc...) and aspects that seem like they will look VERY cool in live action form.
As an advance warning: the film looks like it will be a lot more future-tech science fiction based than super real-life military action. I know this will bother a lot of people, but I think it could be cool. I mean, let's face it, G.I. Joe has always had a very strong science fiction element from the very start, so I think certain aspects of this make sense. The vehicle concepts are VERY cool (a nice Night Raven-esque Blackbird type of fighter jet).
There are going to be jetpacks, floating weapon-platforms, glider jets, submarines, and all sorts of pretty neat looking future weapons. Straight up, this will disappoint some of the military purists, but I think to the general public who's looking for a new and exciting effects-laden action flick, it will satisfy. It was all very early stuff, but also looked pretty cool, too.
We got quick looks at a couple of what looked to be COBRA Troopers in animatic form, and they were wearing a nice armored, blue uniform that looked fairly COBRA-like (from what I could tell with the quick flash).
That's what jumps out at me so far, shoot questions and I'll answer what I can. I'll be offline a lot of the day tomorrow as I travel back home, but I'll answer what I can.
