Note:I posted this over at Joe Reloaded but wanted to post it here too for those that dont go over there!
I am not depressed about the new continuity in the comic or movie, if there is one! in fact, I am excited about it! Dont get me wrong, I Love what Marvel and DDP did but the way I look at it is that the Marvel and the DDP series is the "true" continuity(to me, anyway) Does this mean the other continuities do not exist? No, they exist...in their own worlds.
In my universe, the Joes have found some Cybertronian technology when the Transformers were on Earth that allows them to go back in time and other dimensions(Of course, CC has some of this technology too but it is limited)
In other words, it is possible that SE could go to the cartoon universe and see a different Duke and different Scarlett flirting with each other.(He wouldnt be jealous as this would be like Scarlett's twin sister) He could go to the DDP GI Joe vs Transformers universe and see the SE that was damaged facially by Starscream. Yes, there are places where certain continuities overlap but this does not mean that they are the same continuities.
Look at Doc from Joe Reloaded. She is from that universe and is also part of the regular continuity, as she is listed on the roster.(Or maybe she was transported from that dimension)
Perhaps Heavy Duty went to Sigma Six universe and the Heavy Duty there gave him a cool Sigma Six suit that he had extra.(we see him in Sigma Suit in latest issue of AE) See my point?
DDP had some things from the cartoon and still does(Agent X-99, etc) but this is just a case of two things being in two different continuities.
There is no competition between continuities, just both existing at the same time. Arent you glad Action Force was in Europe to stop Cobra there? Arent you glad Sigma Six stopped Cobra in the Sigma Six universe? Arent you glad Ripcord is African American in the new movie universe, doing something that never happened in a universe before in that he switched his ancestry?
I can see it now:
Marvel Ripcord:I am Ripcord
Movie Ripcord:So am I!
Marvel Ripcord:I dated an African woman and we had you but you got transported to the movie universe!
Movie Ripcord:Huhhh????
Marvel Ripcord:Hey, if Destro can do it and have a kid a different color than him, so can I! BTW, I am your father!
Movie Ripcord:I am a Wayans! Noooooooooooo!!!
Note:I am not prejudiced but I am just trying to make peace with this concept.

Stalker is one of my favorite Joes and I think they should have Stretcher or one of the other cool African-American Joes but hey...this is a different continuity! I just hope the Marvel continuity world never meets the Movie continuity world or the above scenario may happen! haha

So, what do you think about my peacemaking abilities about the different continuities? "Blessed are the peacemakers..."
Can't all of us GI Joe fans(be it cartoon or whatever) just come together for a group hug and sing "We are the World"? Okay, that is lame but I do wish we could just get along and stop fighting among each other about the GI Joe property we all cherish and love! We-as society, not on the boards- fight about so many things(politics, religion, etc) Cant we agree about GI Joe?
Are you all proud of the Love Father Love is trying to spread between the different Joe fans?
All the GI Joe fans should LOVE each other...but we can kill those who hate GI Joe! haha I hate them! just kidding about hating them and killing them smile!

Speaking of continuity, I just wanted to post this idea that i posted over at Joe Reloaded. I had a similar idea before but I have modified it to be even better(I think):

What, you ask? Has father love went crazy?(He always was :-D ) Now that Biggles Jones is dead(according to DDP), I think we need to bring her back, minus a leg or two...but with a robot suit. She could be the BAT Leader for Destro and possible Vice President of MARS as he helped her stage her death in prison.
BAT Leader? Yes, it was established in the Marvel series that Destro had BATs under his control. He told Mindbender but Mindbender died before he could tell CC. Is that saying that the newer BATs Cobra Commander has created recently are not Destro spies? That's right, some are and some are not.
Cobra has BATS(I see Dr Knox or someone like that being over them) Hotwire and Overkill v1 could help Dr Knox(Yes, the SAW Viper Overkill is dead in my mind, Good riddance, I say!)
Anyway, I totally see Dr Biggles Jones working for Destro. Megatron changed her when he took her away and she will never be good again, in my eyes. However, she is not totally evil.(Thus, why she is with Destro) I can see her fighting Dr Knox or Overkill v1.
Now, how does this relate to Transformers? When Dr Biggles Jones went with Megatron, she was able to steal a few disks from Cybertron about the Cybertron technology. What was one of these things? The INCARNATOR.* Yes, it sounds weird but bear with me for a minute.

This device allows a spirit to be put into a non-fleshly object. For example, a robot. This is the reason why the Transformers are not just lifeless robots. They have a sense of humor, courage and even spirits.(Otherwise, they could never die)

Dr Biggles Jones gives life to Destro's BATs, giving them honor like the Iron Grenadiers. They also have personalities.(Of course, CC wants this for his own BATs but to make evil BATs and may steal it)

Now, I want to give Dr S. Biggles-Jones a new name. At first, I wanted to name her Override II(Override was the motorcycle that sacrificed himself that inspired Dr Jones to sacrifice herself) I mentioned in another thread that it was ironic that Override and Dr Jones wore blue and red.

Another possibility is Elita-One II.(Get it? Elita 1 2!) I just bought her at Target the other day and guess what color she is? Red, Blue and silver and she is a she! Too Cool! Elita-One also has a big gun that could pass as a modified Rail gun!(Remember, Dr BJ was known for her rail gun and I can see it being funded by MARS yet eventually stolen by Cobra, like it was in the comic)

Anyway, I would like to see Dr Biggles Jones being badly injured in the Coffin(2 legs and 2 arms missing or just 1 or each missing) Either way, she uses robotics(Transformers robotics) to replace her missing limbs.

GI Joe has a way to call the Autobots but I think Dr Biggles Jones has a way to call the Transformers as well as she stole a few disks, which could show how to contact Cybertron.

I guess Dr Biggles Jones does not need to have a Transformer name but I can see her being a motorcycle like Arcee or Elita One.

Anyway, you all know that the DDP GI Joe continuity is possibly about to end but I can totally see this being in my own personal universe! If you dont like Transformers, ignore this post(Why are you in this thread anyway? haha) but if you like Transformers and GI Joe combining, this is the post for you! haha

I am not talking about them combining in a different universe(like the DD series), I am talking about GI Joe vs Transformers Marvel style!
Any suggestions, other than to get more decaf?? haha

*The REINCARNATOR could be used to bring back Joes and Cobras, who died. haha Yes, i need some decaf!

I think we got rather spoiled on the idea that somehow there could be a grand unified GI Joe universe and it could be that one universe forever. Always some big differences between the cartoon and the comic book yet with things like Quick Kick getting killed in the comic book and then just phased out of the cartoon some how we got the idea that everything GI Joe must somehow be linked into one universe.

While Devils Due might have made a mistake of blending the cartoon and comic book into one you still have to admire that they were bold enough to make a different universe for GI Joe vs Transformers and GI Joe Reloaded while Hasbro was still playing this game of Sigma Six is and isn't the main grand unified GI Joe universe.

Sure the movie universe is going to be different and depending on what a new publisher does the comic book universe may be different. Heck if we get a new cartoon that is likely yet another universe as well. But I think Transformers shows that different universes can work, didn't like the movie at all but I totally love Transformers Animated and I like the IDW Transformers universe. So perhaps GI Joe will be the same with different universe options so there will be things some of us like and other things some of us don't like.

I dunno what that means... Quick Kick made it into the Movie, and to the end of the Sunbow continuity. The character wasn't killed off in the comics for another 4 years. Practically *no one* from the Sunbow series made it into the DIC cartoon without having a current figure in stores (either a repaint, or a new mold).

Let's be honest. Quick Kick was a mildly popular character in 1985, and never got another figure from Hasbro. Not in the late 80s, when repaints were becoming a big thing, not in the early 90s when a *lot* of mainstay Joes got new toys, not in the late 90s, when Hasbro rolled out the repaints for *years*.

"Phased Out" makes it seem like he was there, consistently, and then disappeared for one reason or another. Quick Kick was just one figure that was released, discontinued, and forgotten about. His death is the only thing that makes him memorable. Footloose, Tollbooth, Airtight, and Lift-Ticket all share QK's single-figure status, and none of them are dead in the comic continuity. Singling out MacArthur is, IMO, a bad example of what you're trying to say.

As far as the unified continuity thing, I do think there was a point when *Hasbro* made us feel like that's where GIJoe was headed, and some fans got very much down with that program. DDP chose to integrate the better cartoon concepts into the comic (it wasn't a full-on combination, the characters and places were introduced as new elements), and Hasbro was honoring the comic continuity by not producing new toys of the characters killed. There seemed to be a concensus among the Powers That Be that the Marvel Comics were the best and "rightest" version of GIJoe, and that they would be used as inspiration for the new official product coming from both Hasbro and DDP. When that fell apart (epidemically and exponentially) between Valor vs Venom and Sigma 6, I get the feeling that some fans retreated to the comics as the last bastion of sanity in a Brand gone wild!

I actually hated the movie and cartoon series. As I've stated plenty of times before. I know the people who were paying for the cartoons said no deaths but come one its war! The Marvel Comic is about the only thing I use for continuity, maybe some of the DD stuff thrown in ONLY if it was for a new character though. Comics Scarlett and Snake Eyes are a thing, in the cartoons its Duke and Scarlett. So how does that fit into the continuity?

I wonder if the new continuity will capitalize on stuff like that. They could get some dramatic mileage out of homaging both previous continuities and making Scarlett not be unbreakably attached to either character, but trying to choose between them.

The worst thing they could do is turn Scarlett into wishy washy, wide eyed teen type torn between two men.

Duke's claim to fame is he is the field commander of GIJoe, his and Scarlett's relationship was never played up as much as Destro/Baroness or Flint/Lady Jaye in the toon.

The stuff with Scarlett and Snake Eyes in the comic was dumb. She always seemed more into him than he was of her. Just the vibe I got.

Scarlett is pretty weak in terms of top tier characters. She just seems so cheesy. The cross bow, the ridiculous uniform, the ninja nonsense, her crappy figures.

There are countless takes on GIJoe. Check out the send off catalog inserts. There's one story that explains those mini-figures, another one shows Cobra Commander and the Twins trying to take out Serpentor. We now got Cobra holding Doc prisoner, even though he is dead in the Hama-verse.

There will never be one unifying continuity, but I think there's some commonly accepted characterization that carries over no matter what at this point.

Again, ???s from me. Sunbow, Hasbro, and Griffen Bacal (all the companies involved in making/financing the cartoon) were all beholden to American Law, and the FCC's Standards and Practices regarding children's shows, including animated series, are forbidden to show death or injury. This was not a choice, it was a mandate. I can't imagine anyone holding that against the cartoon.

That's what I was saying above. DDP didn't meld the cartoons and comics together. They introduced some elements into the comic that were created for the cartoon. But where the two continuities clashed, those elements were ignored thoroughly. Duke and Scarlett have no romantic history, he and Falcon have no familial relation. Cobra never invented a Weather Dominator, or a MASS Device, and Serpentor does not have any Sgt Slaughter DNA in him... Essentially, the only thing DDP integrated were ideas and characters. Tomax and Xamot running Extensive Enterprises, Hector Ramierez as the host of 20 Questions, Sparks as a GIJoe in the old days (reimagined as a behind-the-scenes guy who worked for General Flagg and helped recruit the original 14 Joes).

Neither does he in the Sunbow toon.

I have Arise Serpentor, Arise on VHS and now DVD (thanks to tracking down a used copy of GIJoe Season2 Part1). I've seen it many times. It's a common misconception. The Slaughter DNA was destroyed in part4 when Cobra Commander releases Slaughter from his chains and he goes on a rampage in Mindbender's lab.

An exchange:
Mindbender: We’ve lost Sergent Slaughter's DNA!
Destro: What will this do to the genetic matrix?
Mindbender: I... I don't know.

Then in part5:
Mindbender: Serpentor should not have given into Sergeant Slaughter's challenge.
Destro: Yes. He lacks patience. His genetic matrix has none of Sun-Tzu's DNA.

The point being, Serpentor was a flawed creation because of the loss of Sun-Tzu's and then the replacement Slaughter DNA. Even Serpentor concedes the point at the end of the mini-series, allowing Cobra Commander to stay on as a scapegoat to distract from his imperfection as a leader.

I'll concede the details, but you get my point, yes?

Where the comics and cartoon contradicted one another, DDP ignored the cartoon. They just integrated those things that enhanced the comic world.

In my mind there are only two continuities: 1) my Joeverse for the original toy line set back in the 80's and 2) my 25th Ann. Joeverse set in modern times. While the Marvel comics and some fo the stuff out of the cartoons was a great influence they are by no means cannon. Hasbro, Marvel, DDP, the LA Movie and whoever else can tell whatever stories they want and make whatever changes to the characters they want...it doesn't change my Joeverses unless I think it's a good idea and decide to incorporate it. That's not to say I don't enjoy seeing and reading the stories others have to tell (General Hawk's dio stories are great in my opinion) even if they don't match the Joeverse in my head. So bring on whatever changes may come...the Earth will continue to revolve around the sun and my imagination will still be the reigning force in the world in my head.

And since someone brought up Snake-Eyes seeing the cartoon Duke and Scarlett here is something I saw (and got a good laugh out of) for those that haven't seen it yet....(scroll all the way down)
