So Lady Bear and I are going to actually attempt to make it to Joe Con 2008. We're working on travel arrangements. I know MC hasn't posted the events yet, but can anybody help us based on previous years? MC's site says June 27-29. Does this mean registration starts on the evening of the 26th? Also, does anybody know how late things usually go on the last day of the convention?

Thanks!

Thursday is when they do the tours of the local city's historical sites. For Dallas this'll obviously include Dealey Plaza where JFK was shot, and prolly the Cowboy's Cheerleader's locker rooms.

I didn't see any point showing up for opening simply to wait in a 3-hour line to do nothing but roam the dealer room. I waited until Saturday or something and strolled on in, picked up my junk, then went to the seminars I wanted. I got all the exclusives I wanted as well.

I'd say put aside worries of having to be the first in line.

True dat. I missed a lot of the panels and seminars last year. I was there Saturday and Sunday and spent most of that time on the sales floor. This year I'm coming up Thursday night and staying till Sun afternoon. They had a 2 figure (of the same fig) limit last year for each pass through line. They tried to let everyone there have a chance for Rowdy and Starduster and Silver head Destro. I was hoping to hit the sales floor Friday if it's open and then attend all the extra stuff on Saturday. Pretty much plan on Saturday taking all day. Saturday night is Casino night and that's one of my favorite parts. There's not going to be much time to leave the hotel on Saturday, if you want to see everything. There is a mall across the street from where we'll be this year. So count on some kind of variety at the food court. My advise is to really try hard at gambling on casino night and KEEP your tickets for the raffle. I'm not sure how late it all stays open on Sunday. We usually try to leave around noon. Although late Sunday afternoon you find some really great deals on the sales floor, so if you can hold out, and the item is still there you'll come out like a bandit.

cmon Adrien, you can do better than that for a newbie.....

Well, since this is your first time, you should really experience all of it if you can.

although the official convention is usually 3 days, the whole experience is a whole 5 day vacation. They usually hold tours on the Wednesday and thursday for people wo wish it (and entertain the wives/ guests who dont like G.I.joe) you also have the advantage of registering early on wednesday and recieveing your con set.

Thursday is usually another tour, but its also when the regular "crew" arrives. Thursday Night is official registration, and when they show all the show exclusives. and you have tthe oppurtunitety to buy them, and other clup offerings. yes, the lines are long,.. but the up side is you get to talk to and meet new friends (The sales line is where I met many of my friends from Joecustoms, Joebattlelines, Hisstank and TNI.)

Friday is the show opening, (Just for 3 day attendees) the sales floor opens up for just us club members, along with judging of the contests and Dioramas. they also usualy have a few seminars, and the Hommade joe movie night and the Know Joe contest.

Saturday, the show opens up to the public, and there are seminars, roundtables with Hasbro, Comic book companies (that have the joe license) and several other fun stuff (last year we had a customizing seminars, drawing seminars, and talk sessions with the show guests and invitred presenters) Saturday night is the big casino night and awards cerimony...we also (the more silly of us) dress up in either military clothes, or our favorite G.I.joe (last years were some of the best costumes ever,.. and golobulous had me laughing for weeks) there is also a fundraiser for a charity, Bingo (for those who suck at gambling) and an auction for really cool stuf from the club and donated from vendors.

Sunday,.. more seminars, The G.I.Joe collectors club roundtable, and the final activity, the drawing for a free trip to next year's con. the show floor is usually open until 3:30 pm,.. and then the show breaks.

however, BETWEEN the events, the "Joebros", friends who met at the con, or online on Joeboards, usually hang out a surrounding areas , hotel rooms, and at friends who live near the con's house ( Im planning a huge shindig in Boston in '09) especiallyt the guys who have gone to multiple cons... we usually hang out and have fun. then theres the individual boards get togethter, like Joecustoms grab bag, aThe Crappy Figure Brigade meeting, and other get togethers.

all in all,.. its a fun weekend....

I did the same thing AV did this year, thinking the same thing he did. Well, work kind of forced my hand in the matter. Its true the line was shorter and I got all the exclusives I wanted and some of the 25th figures that weren't available the day before.

However, I missed an entire day of interacting with the guys from the board. That registration night turned out to be something really special that I kicked myself for missing. Even if I hadn't missed hanging out with the guys, showing up and diving right into everything is very tiring, especially if you're flying in.

So yeah I missed waiting in obnoxiously long lines, but I also missed hanging out with the guys for one more day and all those interactions from standing in line, and I also missed the oppertunity to get there and catch my breath, so to speak, before hitting the ground running and going almost non stop for 3 days.

My booth comes with this weird policy, that no one is any under obligation to buy anything. But, I got's lotsa good "LASER BLAST" and good prices so there's no denying oneself. BTW, I'll have 3 booths this time 'round!

See? We are The Borg. You will be assimilated.

Actually, we'll have 5 booths in all (15 tables). 9 are for JoeArmory.com, 3 are for Kamakuras Kustoms, and 3 are for Killuminatis Urban Rev goods. You'll be impressed with the offerings. I actually started getting ready last week, even though it's still 4 months away. Getting some big ass banners printed up, and will have two TVs going this time instead of just one. Also, will do whatever I can to make sure my laptop gets WI-FI so I can run credit cards this time, unlike the fiasco last year.

We'll have a huge presence and total street cred.

well,... since I complained about the "courtesy" room reshowing that one show over and over again, you were the only one that had the series running, so thats cool. (you need to convince the club to do so)

I must have spent a fortune buying parts from you last year! This year Im buying one of those Kluminiti trench coats for a Grifter custom Im doing!!!

It's generally a good idea to register Thursday, although you will inevitably face a line. The only alternative to this is to register at some really off-time, like Saturday mid-afternoon or something. The Club has tried its best over the years to find solutions to the massive registration lines, but there's only so many ways you can handle and direct THAT many people. Try to stand on line with someone you can talk to. It helps pass the time.

Most of the panels run both Saturday and Sunday. If you miss it the first time, you stand a good chance of catching it the second time.

The Dealers' Room closes pretty promptly on Sunday afternoon, but you shouldn't feel the need to be in that much of a rush.

I firmly believe that the G.I.Joe Club runs some of the best-managed Conventions around. You will have a good time, trust me. And a full schedule of events will be available at the Convention, as well as on the Web Site, I'm sure.

I just wanna know what the figures are going to be this year! :-D
