Me and my brother had so much fun with these But half the time they ended up on the roof
or over at the playground on the back side of the fence These were fun then Got the skystriker
cant rember the number of times climbing in the trees to get my Ace back and you know I still
remember my da' teaching me how to make one out of a trash bag....

If you are reading Hasbro you gotta bring em back

If not a skystriker how about a skystriker II F-18 Superhornet with the Jollyrogers
insignia....

If you are as old as me what are your memories and thoughts for the future of Joe
Btw Hasbro the kids do not know its us collectors and those who pass by and remeber
and try to catch a brief moment of child hood and the happy times...and the sad times
when all was lost and destroyed... to Hasbro you doing a great job with this new line every
single figure to date has been outstanding and I thank you and as A former Submariner I Salute
you....

Yep, I had the Falcon (still have the Tan Grunt, too) -- I remember we had a pretty big yard back then, and I'd throw the glider and it would always crash into something hard and chip some styrofoam every time..... Mom was super-pissed that she bought such a flimsy toy (I think it lasted less than a month.) From that point on, I had to buy every one of my Joe toys myself. The only exception was the SnowCat I got for my 13th b-day and the WHALE I got for Xmas.

But I also had a couple of Fisher-Price/Adventure People parachutes, so those saw PLENTY of action with my Joes over the years. I climbed many a tree and scaled many a roof retrieving those damn things :P

I never had either but my cousin had both. Unfortunately they were both broken by the time I ever saw them so I never got to enjoy them :(

While I would LOVE to see a new version of either, I would hope they could be made sturdier than the originals. There are several different action figure lines that have done plastic framed gliders with vinyl wings. Maybe that would be the way to go?

Sorry to here that you never had one I bought mine and Playworld in Terrytown La.
I rember I got the falcon so I had to save my five dollar aweek allowance for two weeks because it was about six dollars....I also rember being able to Buy two Joes aweek..
And Duke when he came in the mail I jumped up and down for days ....Cut and save my
flag points.. and got the manta.....Then along came my uncle and 86 and destroyed my little
world playshed.....Now 22 years later im spending 100's of dollars to rebuild my memories of
fun and excitment...but some like the Cobra missle sears exclusive and the falcon and viper
gliders ill probably never have again...for im sure there used to be a stack of fifty of them at the
toy store they are probably all destroyed....only the figures would last and those who know
what the roof does to a Grunt figure.... a perfect figure is hard to come by....

Yea I had the Falcon as well. I still have the tan Grunt in fact thats who I used as Tiger cause Grunt already had a figure, so therefore it became me before the Steel Brigade figure came out. But yea that Falcon didn't last me more than a month either.

I never got them. I wanted the Falcon but even as a kid and playing with my firend's glider I knew the styrocardboard thing wasn't going to last. He ended up breaking them and throwing them out within a week. That was after awhole mess of tape and glue.

When Skymate and Spirit came out with the updated plastic gliders I couldn't wait to tear them open. I still have Skymates glider and it still flies great. I can't remember what happened to Spirit's. Lost it somehwere I think. Probably on the roof.

I got them both at the same time. I got them at Toys R Us back when it was a new store in town. I can't remember if it was my birthday or what though. I remember getting home and putting them together. I rushed outside with the Falcon wanting to see how it flew. At that time we had some playground type of stuff in the yard. The first time I threw the Falcon it went straight, then curved right into a pole. I buckled up an area on the right wing. Eventually after throwing it several times I managed to mess it up and scratched up Grunt pretty bad too. I decided the Viper wasn't going to fly and eventuall got another Falcon. I'm assuming they're both still in good shape, although I haven't looked at either in close to 8 years now. I have a huge cabinet that a lot of my stuff is in and many things stacked in front of it. Until I can finally sell enough of my stuff I won't be opening that cabinet any time soon.

I got my Falcon glider at Playworld too, but in NY. I loved that thing.
I still have tan grunt and the gun frame, but the glider has long since been destroyed.
I got one good summer out of it before it took one too many hard landings. And that thing really flew!
This is one that they really should remake. Its cheap and really does give alot of fun for the buck.
I guess if you had a hot-knife and the right foam you could make your own.

Heck Hasbro could sell 'em as twin packs for $15 and make a killing. Or as a mailaway or DTC.

I received the Viper and my brother got the Falcon. I guess they eventually got demolished, as I remember holding on to the frame in hopes of reconstructing a new glider. It never happened :(

Nothing like pressed styrofoam to make a durable toy! :-D

I used to have these, but they were casualties of age, as much as anything. They weren't in bad shape, overall, when I finally sold them on eBay several years ago. Did all right by them, too. Their fragility has made them rather collectible.

I still have the tan Grunt and the silver-emblemed Cobra Trooper that came with them, too.

I told a friend of mine of seeing a three-foot-high stack of these glider boxes at the mall entrance to a K*B Toy one time. He just about flipped. The boxes themselves weren't in the greatest shape, which sort of made me wonder how the gliders were.

One of Hasbro's more interesting Joe Moments... :-) ;-)

I got the Falcon as a b-day present from a friend back in the day. Flew it a few times, then relegated it to display. The Viper I picked up in '96 from a now-defunct shop in Nashville (Collector's World, anyone?).

Nowadays mine...well...they pretty much look just like the ones in the pictures. Because, um, those are the pics of my gliders I submitted to the YoJoe archive years back. :rotfl: Man, that old blue curtain made for the best background.

I too recall hitting the mall after Xmas '84 and seeing huge stacks of them on special out in front of Kay Bee. Fantastic memories...

Oh, no worries GIS...I know they're at YoJoe. No harm, no foul...I know you weren't taking credit, just posting pics to get the thread moving. :-D

Definitely ain't mad. I'm just sayin...it was funny to see them show up out of left field. :-) Frankly, I had forgotten they were still there in the YoJoe archives. Crap, I made a bunch of pics for them back then...

I never got either the Falcon or the Viper Gliders...

But I do remember making my own out of cardboard.

I carefully cut out a design I liked, found the sweet spot to position the backpack hole, and then punched a few holes in it to wrap twist ties (breadbag ties) around the figure so he wouldn't fall. I stuck the backpack on the top.

I must have been channeling the Airborne intro from the Marvel run because I always used Airborne when I played.

I also had a old Hot Wheels launcher that I fixed with new rubber bands. I would pull back the launching nub until it clicked into place, then carefully placed Airborne on the launcher with legs apart (sorry there, Airborne), then hit the release button.

I could get that homemade glider to bank, dive, and climb just by bending the corners.

With the rubber bands, that glider easily shot 30-40 feet in seconds. By positioning the launcher at different angles I could make that thing top out at 20-25 feet up and then dive down on my unsuspecting family members. I'd launch it over cars, over the trailer roof, through windows.

I think to this day I'd rather have that homemade one than the Hasbro ones. What memories... :D

(I just wish I still had that Hoth set I built following the directions my mom found in one of her magazines. It also showed how to build a Dagobah swamp using a freezer container to make the 'lake'.)
