Let me tie your lists together and I'll throw in a few others I can think of...

AIR FORCE:
Ace
Barrel Roll
Bombstrike
Dogfight??? (can't imagine the codename "Dogfight" not being an Airforce member)
Ghostrider
Skystriker
Slipstream

COAST GUARD:
Cutter

NAVY:
Deep Six
Depth Charge
Dr. Link Talbot
Keel Haul
Rampart
Shipwreck
Top Side
Torpedo
Tracker
Wet Down
Wetsuit

MARINES:
Blast-Off???- The character was introduced as one of the Mega-Marines...
Gung Ho
Hollow Point
Leatherneck
Mace???
Mainframe
Mirage???- See Blast-Off
Sgt. Slaughter

OTHER:
Big Bend- detached from British Military
Billy- directly attached to GI Joe from civilian life (silly Devil's Due)
Firewall- see Billy
GI Jane???- ex-army, but currently Department of Defense (or similar) scientist?
Mercer- unofficial "off the books" member
Red Dog- unofficial "off the books" member
Shockwave???- attached to GI Joe from (non-military) law enforcement?*
Skymate- detached from Australian Military
Sneak Peek II- attached to GI Joe from FBI
Taurus- unofficial "off the books" member

That's about 36 non-Army members. There are probably a few more names that could be added as well.

To give full credit- Chief and I had a conversation about Shockwave. Chief believed the character could be a Department of Defense employee (such as DOD police) or an ex-civilian Police Officer rather than directly from one of the 5 branches.

Action Man and Daina are both from foreign services
Daemon is much like Firewall in that he's a civilian.
Chameleon also appears to be civilian.
Rocky was proposed as a Nation Guard member but he probably doesn't count.

Did anybody ever consider the dichotomy of Ace being an USAF officer, and him flying the Skystriker, which is ostesibly an F-14 Tomcat (Navy bird)?

For a No-prize, I guess we could say that the Skystriker, regardless of the base frame and similaritys, is a prototype/one-of-a-kind/experimental bird.

You can't say its a one of a kind cause Ace has either crashed or got shot down too many times for it to be a one of a kind. Navy uses Air Force fighers for Top Gun so there is no prob with Air Force flying Navy planes. The only big difference is the Air Force pilots would have to learn to land on a carrier in a Navy plane.

:keelhaul: I knew I forgot somebody from my list, chalk it up to me never owning a USS Flagg battleship, or the Battle Crops version of him.

By the way did you know he was a pilot prior to commanding warships?

I didn't think aviators could command warships, I thought navy aviation was basically an insular corps, like the Marine Corps.

I seem to recall most aircraft carriers are commanded by former aviators.

If you want to break it down into civilian stuff:

Bullet Proof was a Federal Marshal
Wide Scope was a SWAT member like Shockwave

Blast Off worked for the National Park Service (smoke Jumper)

I've spoken to former Navy Officers and it seems like on carriers that the dynamic is the CO is usually a ship-based officer and the XO is a former aviator, or vice-versa. You will usually have this type of pairing, it's just the order that they go in will differ.
